And on Thursday Salma Hayek and Jada Pinkett Smith joined forces for the launch of Gucci's women's empowerment movement, Chime for Change.

Representing fellow co-founders Frida Giannini and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as she launched the initiative, Salma presents a short film that she narrates, featuring new music by Beyoncé.
The Mexican-American actress - whose husband is incidentally François-Henri Pinault, CEO of PPR (the holding company which owns Gucci Group) - introduced the new movement by showing the first of ten short films about inspiring women from around the world.
The movie clip is an extended trailer for The Supreme Price, produced and directed by Joanna Lipper and winner of the 2012 Spotlighting Women Documentary Award.

Salma's mission extended beyond the event on Thursday, with the actress encouraging people around the world to support girls’ and womens’ projects.
The actress appears as one of several team leaders on website Catapult.org, in which she urges her fans and fellow activists to support causes such as helping Syrian refugees to obtain access to health care, and training peer leaders in her native Mexico.
She explains in a statement on the website: 'I am an actor and activist, mother, member of the V-Day Association's Board of Directors and the PPR Foundation for Women's Dignity and Rights, and co-Founder of CHIME FOR CHANGE, a new initiative joining the growing international movement on behalf of girls and women around the world.

'I believe that by working together we
can change the course of history to ensure that girls and women are
empowered to realize their potential and thrive,' she continues about
her involvement in the project. Chime For Change aims to focus on three key factors of women's empowerment: education, health and justice.
A press release states: 'The campaign comes at a historic and pivotal moment for girls and women globally as the world’s attention is drawn to international stories ranging from Malala’s personal fight for education in Pakistan to headlines of violence against women in all corners of the world.'
Gucci has enlisted the help of other leading organisations to strengthen the impact of the campaign.

Salma's husband, PPR CEO François-Henri Pinault, said in a press release: 'I am convinced that across the planet, women are at the heart of the equilibrium of our communities. There is a need to transform words into action and find new ways to enable and empower girls and women.'
'Through the campaign's partner Catapult - a platform dedicated to the advancement of women's lives - members of the Chime For Change community will be connected to specific organizations and projects so they can help fund the causes that matter most to them.'
